Varicose Veins Laser Treatment
One thing you should always keep in mind is the treatment of varicose veins depends on how severe varicose veins are. The treatments include complex medical care, surgical or laser treatment to help prevent serious disabling complications. Cosmetic procedures reduce the appearance of varicose veins. The proper diagnosis of varicose veins requires a physical examination and additional medical testing as needed. Your physician may perform an Ultrasound evaluation to diagnose your varicose veins. An accurate ultrasound test will help determine the most appropriate treatment for you.
Varicose Vein Removal
In order to completely remove varicose veins, your physician will destroy or remove the problem veins. That’s not to say they will not come back, but the problem veins causing you problems now will be gone following destruction or removal. Varicose vein laser treatment will destroy problem veins. These procedures work by exposing the problem vein to laser energy, which heats the vein and causes it to collapse. The vein will close and seal off completely. Then the body’s natural processes will absorb whatever is left.
Conservative Treatment of Varicose Veins
Conservative methods of treatment such as wearing compression stockings, exercising, or losing weight may relieve symptoms such as pain or heaviness in the legs. However, these treatments do not get rid of them completely. The problem veins will persist if they are not destroyed or removed through a procedure such as a laser treatment.
Endovenous Laser Ablation
One common laser vein treatment is called endovenous laser ablation. This is done in a doctor’s office, in about an hour. This technique is like a high-tech version of sclerotherapy. This procedure involves the insertion of a laser fiber into the faulty vein. The fiber then releases laser energy, which heats the vein and causes it to collapse. The vein shuts down so other veins in the area take over. Over time, the body will remove the fibroid varicose vein. This problem vein disappears forever. However, recurrence is something to watch out for no matter the treatment. This is known as the “no-surgery, no-scar” way of removing painful varicose veins. Endovenous Laser Treatment is becoming the “gold standard” method of varicose vein removal.
Lifestyle Changes
Some vein specialists might recommend certain lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of recurrence. At a minimum, walk periodically if you sit down for most of the day. Conversely, sit down periodically if you are on your feet for most of your day. Some specialists may recommend exercise and weight loss and some may recommend a change in diet. Heredity may play a role in the presence of varicose-veins, so inform your doctor if a family member has suffered or is suffering from varicose veins. Prevention helps you deal with this venous condition.
Laser treatments are often more popular than traditional surgical procedures because they are less invasive. They may remove smaller spider veins, and some laser procedures such as endovenous laser ablation may remove larger varicose veins. Make sure you discuss this with your doctor before you receive treatment or undergo any procedure.
